The public footpath through St. Andrews Churchyard looked very much different in 1906. The railings and the heavy iron gates at each end were taken for scrap in the Second World War. Many of the larger tombstones were then surrounded by iron railings and these too were to be victims of the war. The trees were planted in 1865 and some survive today. The large building to be seen at the end of the footpath is Red House in the Colchester Road - now a firm of Solicitors.
