By 1901 the Bull Hotel in Bridge Street, on the left, had acquired a Georgian front although this was removed a few years later to reveal the original timbered front it shows today. In the distance are the wall and iron railings which the surrounded the railway station and the Corn Exchange previously mentioned. It would seem that the station yard was then much under used for in 1906 the 'Halstead Times' suggested that the Colne Valley Railway and the Halstead Urban District Council should get together on a scheme to lay the area out with shrubs and trees, an ornamental lamp-standard and a fountain. The idea was not taken up but in 1986 the Braintree District Council did provide, at last, trees and shrubs, a nearby lamp, seats for the public but alas! no fountain. The Trinity Court block of flats now occupies the site where the station formally stood.
