These houses in Trinity Road were built by the Halstead Industrial Co-operative Society in the years 1890-1898. The heavy iron railings were a very characteristic feature of the times. These were taken down in the Second World War leaving our street scenes the poorer. It is now usual to find only the broken-off stumps of the ironwork to show the extent of our loss. Non of these railings survive in Halstead nor in many other towns, although in nearby Sudbury a single example survives in Cross Street.

Q: Hi, I have just bought my first house, and will be moving to Halstead in the coming weeks, The house is a terraced cottage, brick built. Do you know roughly what year 10 Trinity Road would of been built in?

A: We presume your house is one of the Owen Terrace houses - where the iron railings to the fronts have been removed? If so, your house was built after 1890 and before 1900. They were built by the Halstead Industrial Co-operative Society named after Robert Owen who was a great Co-operative Pioneer for decent homes for the working classes / workers in the town. The 1st cottage was bought for £180 in 1890/1 and further houses built along side thereafter.
