In July 1892 the Alexanders Colassal Circus visited. During the day a street carnival with horses, ponies, chariots music and elegant trappings went through the town. Here we see part of the procession in progress with a striking team of nine Piebalds drawing an ornate chariot which probably contained some of the wild animals used in the circus performances. The horses would also, the same evening, be carrying out their intricate manoeuvres in the ring. The purpose of the parade was to whet the appetite of the public and induce them to attend the evening performance of the Circus.
