Some of Halstead's oldest houses are seen here (almost fifthteenth century in parts) at the foot of Chapel Hill. This photograph was taken in the early 1900's but the scene has altered very little as you can see. John Morley (1655-1732), Halstead's famous butcher and landjobber was born at No.11 Chapel Hill (in the centre of the row). Chapel Hill is so named because at one time, previous to the building of Holy Trinity Church a chapel stood at the foot of the hill but all traces have vanished.
