Back to - Then and Now Scenes 37 - 48

In 1900 this delightfully rural scene could be found on the very edge of Halstead. Brook Farm House, behind the tree on the right, and the white gabled house in the middle distance are still there, but all else has changed. The iron railings in the foreground mark where the road into the Blue Bridge Estate now runs. The two low -roofed sheds a little further along the road were part of the Blomfield's brickyard. Many of the bricks made here were used in the building of Halstead properties and can be recognised by the name 'Blomfield, Halstead' impressed in the frog.

The following three images have been kindly supplied by Jan McDonald of Brook Farm House, Halstead. The first shows Brook Farm House in the 1890's - Notice the lady at the side of the house with her straw hat and the simple rough track road - if only it could be like that today?

This delightful scene shows the pond at the side of Brook Farm House, which is now Brook Farm Close.
