Mrs Marjorie Chaplin (later Clark) is seen here darning in a broken end (a warp thread) on one of Courtaulds beautiful jacquard materials which were woven in the factory. After the fabric was woven it was inspected and any fault was either rectified by the darner or cut out - a job that needed much patience and very good eye sight. This photograph was taken just after World War II.
