Henry Cook, known as "Cook" would not let the fact that he had no hands stop him from working! He could steer a traction engine by slipping the ringle on his false hand over the steering handle and had a special short pitch fork, with a leather thong, to enable him to help with the threshing. He lost one hand in a chaff cutter and during harvesting he had a bet that he could run round the field twice to the reapers once. Unfortunately he slipped in front of the machine, which cut off his remaining hand. Cook had interchangeable hooks which allowed him to use a knife and fork and to ride a tricycle as we can see in this photograph.
