Arthur Denny, a general engineer, was a well known locksmith in a 40 miles radius of Halstead, making all kinds of locks, keys and anything in metal. He could open any lock when the key was lost and became known as the 'Key Man'. The police often called upon him to go to the rescue of people who inadvertantly locked themsleves out. He was born in Willesden, the 15th child of a poor family. He lived at George Villa, 10, Fleece Yard, which was originally the hostler's home from the George Hotel in Hedingham Road, which up until recently was Lloyd's Bank. He died in 1989 aged 90 years.
