Milkman - Ernie Willis

Always friendly and helpful Ernie Willis, of Colne Engaine, went about his work as a milkman for 18 years. He started with his round in Earls Colne, spreading out to Fenn Road, Halstead when the new council houses were built in the 1930's, eventually delivering all over the town. Large churns stood in the back of his cart which he ladled the milk into jugs of varying sizes belonging to his customers. The picture we see here is of Ernie c1935 at the top of Halstead High Street with his milk cart and 'Kitty' his horse.
