During the 1930's Frederick and Dorothy Brewer delivered newspapers from their home at 10, Windmill Road, Halstead, before moving to 45, High Street in 1939 remaining there until the early 1960's. The shop was open 7 days a week for the sale of newspapers, periodicals, cigarettes and confectionary and every Saturday night a queue formed outside waiting for the 'Green Un' - Football Star - to check the football results. After the shop closed in the evening Fred carried evening papers on his bike, which he never rode, delivering them around the town in all weathers for one penny per paper and no delivery charge. Dorothy is seen here with her cat in the shop which is now part of The Wardrobe.
