Born in Suffolk Arthur J. Andrews, known as Jack, has lived locally since the age of 2. He has always been a true countryman with much love and respect for Mother Nature and all her creatures grat and small. His boyhood dream to be a pig farmer was realised when he purchased 3 little piglets and reared them on a piece of land at Does Corner, Halstead. Jack bought and sold land enabling him to increase his herd and in order to feed them began a swill collection from local shops and schools. Throughout his life he tackled many jobs - on farms of all types, in gravel pits plus has also been a hawker, soldier, lorry driver, coalman, landowner, woddcutter, road surfacer, and most important to him, a pig farmer. What you might call a 'Jack of all trades'.
Jack would often sing to his pigs and has been known to sit on the back of one whilst doing so. He once was featured on Anglia Television doing exactly this; so this tale is well documented! He was also well known for his generousity to Paper Boys and Girls at Christmas time by giving each one a festive tip £1 for boys and £2 for girls.
Sadly Jack Andrews died early in December 2003 at the age of 94.
