Town Crier - George 'Rocky' Bragg recommend to a friend
Back to - Halstead - People of the town 37 - 48

Pictured outside the Dog Inn in Hedingham Road, is Halstead's last town crier, George 'Rocky' Bragg (left) with his friend Herbert Claydon. 'Rocky' held his position for many years, walking round advertising sales and crying out public notices, dressed in a riding outfit. He visited the pubs and clubs at night selling peanuts and chocolate coconut squares for 2d. The Empire cinema hired him to meet trains at the station to advertise films that were being shown. He died in 1937.
