William Humm, with his long beard, was very well known as the village carter at Bulmer where he lived at The Street. Every Thursday he would go round the local areas collecting chickens, rabbits etc., which were put in crates, loaded into the rear of his donkey cart and taken off to Sudbury market to sell. He died in 1938 at the age of 88 years.
