The White Horse had its own brewery in 1780. It was here that George Cook was taught to brew by a relative in 1870. In 1885 George took up the challenge to brew his own ale so he rented 105 Parsonage Street, next door to The Griffin and converted the adjoining maltings. The business grew into a family concern and eventually moved to Tidings Hill - set up by his son George E. Cook. Cooks brewery ran for many years, but now the land has been sold off to a housing developer. The White Horse is now a private dwelling.
